LE JOG 2007 - The Final Route
Day 1 – Land’s End to Upton Cross
Leave Land’s End on A30 towards Penzance. Go through Penzance, taking the A394 towards Helston.
Go through Helston town centre, rejoining A394 towards Falmouth. Bear left on the A39 towards Truro. Go through Truro, taking A390 toward St Austell.
Go through St Austell town centre, emerging on the A390 towards Liskeard.
Just after East Taphouse, turn left on the B road toward Dobwalls to avoid Liskeard town centre. Cross over the A38 continuing on the B road towards Common Moor and Upton Cross. Upton Cross is the junction with the B3254 by the Primary School which is on your left.
End Day 1. Distance 80 miles.
Day 2. – Upton Cross to Bridgwater
Staying on the B3254, follow towards the A30 at Launceston. At the junction with the A30, turn right along the A30 and come off at the 3rd junction which is Lifton Down.
Turn onto the old A30, heading through Portgate, Lewdown and onto Bridestowe. Eventually join the A386, turn left, follow round past services, keep going towards Okehampton on the A386. Turn right onto B3260 and then the B3215 heading towards North Tawton. This joins the A3072 which eventually joins the A377 at Copplestone. Turn right towards Crediton. In Credition turn left on the A3072 towards Tiverton.
From Tiverton take the A361 towards Motorway, crossing the motorway, pick up the A38 towards Taunton. Follow A38 towards Bridgwater. End of route at Travel Lodge.
End Day 2. Distance 92 miles.
Day 3 – Bridgwater to Tewkesbury
Join A38 towards Bristol. Find your way through Bristol, probably end up getting lost around Cribs Causeway and eventually finding the A38 again. Keep going northwards towards Gloucester. Keep following the A38 around Gloucester towards Tewkesbury. End of day was Junction 1 on the M50 where it meets the A38.
End Day 3. Distance 87 miles.
Day 4 – Tewkesbury to Standish
Continuing on the A38 to Worcester. Picking up the A449 towards Kidderminster. Take the A449 to Wolverhampton, then the A449 to Stafford. Pick up the A34 towards Newcastle-Under-Lyme.
At Kidsgrove turn left onto the A5011 then the A50 towards Holmes Chapel and continue northwards towards Knutsford. Stay on A50 towards Warrington. Go through Warrington on the A50.
Pick up the A49 towards Wigan. Continue on the A49 through Wigan and head towards Standish.
End of day was Jctn 27 M6.
Distance 113 miles.
Day 5 – Standish to Carlisle
Continue north on the A49 towards Preston. Pick up the A6 which takes you through Preston and towards Garstang. Just before Garstang take a right onto the B6430 which takes you around Garstang. Rejoin the A6 just north of Garstang, keep going towards Lancaster.
Continue on the A6 through, Carnforth, Milnthorpe, Kendal, up and over Shap Hill, continuing on towards Penrith. Continue on the A6 to Carlisle.
End of day was Junction 42 of the M6, where the A6 meets the M6.
Distance 113 miles.
Day 6 – Carlisle to Lugton
From junction 42 of the M6, follow the A6 towards the town centre. Pick up the A7 until the junction with the A74. Turning left onto the A74, follow towards Gretna, turn left onto the B721 again towards Gretna, cross border (hurrah!), head towards Annan. At Annan join the A75 towards Dumfries. Pick up the A76 towards Kilmarnock via Cumnock.
Going through Kilmarnock pick up the A735 towards Stewarton. End of day was at Lugton which is the junction with the of the A735 with the A736.
Distance 106 miles
Day 7 – Lugton to Fort William
Continuing on the A736, take the A726 towards Paisley, then the A761 towards the airport. Take the A726 around the airport and over the Erskine Bridge. Over the bridge take the A82 towards Loch Lomond.
Keep following the A82 all the way to Fort William.
Distance 113 miles
Day 8 – Fortwilliam to Tain
Continue on the A82 alongside Loch Ness until you reach Drumnadrochit and turn left onto the A831 and then right onto the A833 up and nice little hill (1 in 7), towards Beauly.
Once reaching Beauly pick up the A862 towards Dingwall. Follow through Dingwall and join the A9 towards Tain. End of day was the roundabout junction with the A836.
Distance 100 miles.
Day 9 – Tain to John O’Groats
Follow A9 to Latherton and the road becomes the A99 which takes you all the way to JOG. Look out for planet Tesco in Wick.
Distance 84.5 miles.
