Lands End to John O'Groats
Charitable bike ride

LE JOG - Congratulations!

Congratulations to the riders, a massive achievement, Lands End to John O'Groats in just 9 days. A total distance of 888.7 miles, at an average distance of 98.7 miles per day. Well done chaps!

Please keep checking back, the riders will soon post their individual thoughts on the journey, the highs, the lows, and the inbetweens.

If you've not read it yet, please see the blog...the inside track on the journey. Photos have now been posted and can be viewed in the gallery.

“Ah I’ve got an idea you might be interested in,” said Mark. “What’s that?” I replied. “I’m going to do a Lands End to John O’Groats bike ride next year. Would you be up for it?” “Mmmmmmm. I’ll have to have a think. Sounds like a good idea.”

That was how it all started, with a brief conversation, and the seeds sown of a trek across the country.

Having then not really considered the full implications of what it would entail I blindly said I’m in and began to carryout some very loose planning. In a general discussion it was thought that we would be able to average about 15Mph. Up hill and down dale if we were on racing bikes. Therefore over a day 120 miles should be achievable. How foolish you can be. As the time progressed and training rides got longer and hillier the enormity of the task slowly sank in. We are going to die!

Still never mind it was all going to be for charity. Four work colleagues each doing their bit for their local community projects. Wonderful idea, especially as these events normally attract money for the larger charities. So with some careful planning and a dartboard selection process for the route our LE JOG, End 2 End is upon us.

Come the 4th June we shall set forth from Lands End and begin our expedition northwards to John O’Groats. All 1,000 miles or so. To help us en route we have a couple of guys to act as support crew, although they are refusing to massage our legs. Hopefully in about nine days time we shall be reaching our destination tired and emotional, but ever so relieved that we have actually made it.

If you are interested in whom we are, what charities we are raising money for and which way we are going have a look at some of the other pages. If you’re lucky the blog might be updated and you can read about how much we hate each other and the fact that it’s all somebody else’s fault.
